Our Benefiting Charity:  HOPE The Will Herndon Research Fund

HOPE: The Will Herndon Research Fund at Beyond Batten Disease Foundation was founded in 2009 by Missy and Wayne Herndon, the parents of Will Herndon. When Will was 6 years old, Missy and Wayne received the devastating diagnosis that their oldest son was suffering from a very rare, genetic, fatal, degenerative brain disease called juvenile Batten disease. With a terminal diagnosis and no viable treatment on the horizon, Missy sent out a prayer request by email to her family and friends to pray for Will. The prayer request went viral and she received an outpouring of responses from people all over the world. They sent words of love, faith and HOPE. These words inspired her to take action and not accept this fate for her son. A fund was created to raise money for research and help save Will.  Since that time, through grass roots fundraising and the support of this generous community called The Woodlands,  HOPE has raised over $7,700,000 locally for juvenile Batten disease research. The funds that have been raised over the last 11 years have provided HOPE to so many families with children with this terrible disease and has lead the way for one of the most promising drug discoveries in the history of the disease. This research is happening locally at the Neurological Research Institute in the Texas Medical Center. We are looking towards the future into 2020 and the start of a clinical trial that will help slow the progression of Will's disease, buying precious time for the researchers to continue to search for a cure for juvenile Batten disease.  By participating in this event, you too are helping to save the lives of children like Will. We are grateful and so thankful for your support. For more information on The Will Herndon Research Fund, please go to www.willherndon.org or contact our director, Jessica Kemp-Park at 713-385-3981.
